16g Evo flapper size / boost creep
« on: November 26, 2003, 07:23:34 am »
Ok, so I got a 16g EVO turbo now, it is at L&R racing awaiting surgery.

It is having a 34mm flapper and a minor porting of the wastegate housing done.

I have heard and read many different stories about boost creep with the 16g's and I am concerned that with the flapper being installed and the minor port job, it may not be enough. I have read that it may not be.

I plan to soon have a full 3" turbo back (Stainless or aluminized is still no known)

Can anyone give me thier experiences with a 16g, and a 34mm flapper and 3" exhaut?
Was the port big enough?
Did your boost creep with this setup?
How big of a flapper did you add?
etc...

Thanks

Looks like the Turbo will be going in maybe by Saturday, so the more responses the better.

PS : With the Evo's housing being so much thinner than the big 16g, would anybody still recommend porting out the intake?

because the evo is bigger than the big 16G, I dont think the porting is necessary. The 34mm flapper should be enough to eliminate boost creep, everything should be ok. I dont think boost creep is an big of an issue on the evo when compared to the big 16G.

Let Lowell know your concerns and your plans.  He will do it right for ya.

But yea, the O2 housing is gonna be a sticking point, if left stock.
