New radiator needed.....
« on: August 04, 2012, 06:43:42 pm »
So my talon is overheating on the cow and in hills on the hwy in kamloops. Pretty sure I need to replace the rad.

My question is what my best options are?  I want something better, for sure, but don't want to pay more than necessary. I can get a cxracing for 130, no name from rtmracing for 200, mishimoto from rtmracing for 260, mishimoto xline from maperformance for 320, fluidyne for 360.

I am leaning towards the no name from rtm for 200 but would welcome input as I know a lot of you have upgraded your rads.

I updated my radiator to a Fluidyne along with Mishimoto silicone upper/lower hoses and used brand new OEM spring clamps.

Since this work was done back in 2008, the Talon has never had a problem with leaking or over heating - even on the dreaded FVT hill climb to the Hope Slide and idling in forever in breezeless, hot weather while waiting to get onto the Lion's Gate bridge.

Ive actually seen a lot of guys using the noname aluminum radiators with no problems at all.  I have a mishimoto aluminum and its really good and it gets bloody hot   lol . I would bet you that if Ziggy sells noname ones,  they work well.  The ones I have seen are almost replicas of the mishimoto ones.

I have a mishimoto with slim fans.  Probably 4 years old?  No issues with the core yet.

Rtm usually sells decent "cheap" alternatives. They may not last as long but good bang for your buck.

I went with the Megan Racing rad (cuz it was only a few more than no name) with the Mishimoto fan shroud from Rtm racing, In have no issues in this heat and including the run up to hope slide. One thing i noticed on Ziggy's web site is the no name shroud doesn't look like it will bolt right up to just any rad!
