I agree if you leave the door open it will take longer to grow mold. Afresh tablets help too. You need to be right on top of your laundry though. Even a couple hrs letting it sit will start growing.
I have a fairly large family and out of the 4 people with front loaders 3 had mold in a few months. My mom who is mega anal about house cleaning managed to keep it away for a few years. Ended up with mold in the end though.
We had one and ended up trading it for a old style. I don't get water bills though. I don't get mold. Mold is gross.
Type in "front load washer mold" in the google search bar and you will see this is a huge problem.
The plasti dip looks good. Real good.
