2g engine rebuild
« on: July 26, 2011, 05:38:21 pm »
Hey everyone can i get some tips on a 2g engine rebuild?  should i look into a 6bolt motor instead?  my 2g engine has 149xxx km on it right now but the puddle killed it :( what should i be doing?   the bottom bearing seized on my old engine is it still rebuildable?

chances are when you open up the siezed motor, youll find out pretty fast whats salvagable.  good chance that its likely only the block/head which will need some prep before rebuilding.  crank is likely damaged and even a throw away.  i would get any and every posible reusable part inspected by a machinist however thatll cost a few $$$.

at this point you may heavily want to consider the 6bolt swap.  a running 6 or 7bolt long block will run you less that what itll cost to rebuild your siezed motor (i think phil is still selling a 6bolt).  there are a small handful of things required for the swap but all fairly minor. doing the swap wont yield you more hp than your 7bolt but its the preferred platform overall.

I have a spare 7 bolt that ran when I pulled it. Yours free if you have a way of getting it from Vernon. I did the timing belt and waterpump less than 3000km before I took it off the road.

I may actually be coming down to the coast around the 6th of August if a few of my parts sell, in which case I can bring it down

Ahh. Well, I'm sure I can meet part way in Cache Creek or something. Save a little time that way.

If something changes Carl you can always drop the motor off at the shop or give it to me to take there.
