ball joints
« on: August 15, 2011, 09:48:04 pm »
Ok so I was inspecting my ride today and found out that my drivers side front ball joint is loose.  Has anyone replaced this themselves or do I need to have a shop do it?  and if I can do it myself then how easy is it?

You need a press to do balljoints on a 1g.

Do yourself a favor and just spend the extra cash and grab one of these from RTM racing...

It's more than $50 for a ball joint ....    but WAY less of a hassle and you won't pull your hair out.

I was able to do balljoints on mine using one of these:

It took some time, but they went out and back in again.
Objects in mirrors appear to be losing.

You can still do the lower control arm. I'd recommend new!

pressing in/out the ball joints is the hardest part on a 1G.  I wouldnt even bother replacing the whole arm on a 1g.  Doing just the ball joint is easy enough.
