2 stage boost control should help.  The biggest problems are wrong wheel drive means you're fighting all the laws of physics and then these motors make big torque and often post nearly equal hp and torque numbers that look more like small block v8 numbers than 4 banger.

This is a case of less is more.  If you can limit the torque and keep traction on the bottom end and combine that with some sticky rubber you should be good.  If you're after drag traction rather than all around handling stiff springs in the back are supposed to help, with more compliant springs up front.

A really cool solution would be to use the ABS sensor speed readings to check for a difference in speed between front and rear wheels and pull timing and/or boost when the front's slip.  Actually I'm surprised something like doesn't exist as a piggyback.

That is quite an excellent idea! I'm not really all for drag traction, since this car is my dd I would also like it to handle well in these situation. I was thinking that some D2 coils would be a nice addition and would probably help with traction. On the plus side though, being a fwd with a 10% taller 5th gear, the car gets 45mpg on the highway if I drive it sensibly.

I used to have a Dejon 2-boost controller and it sure did help..They seem to be easy to make too, all you need a is a MBC and a module thing that will open/maintain certain boost levels

I already know how I am going to built it, but thanks for your input. I am going to build a bracket to hold a momentary push button switch in conjunction with an air solenoid, so that when the shifter is all the way over (1st and 2nd gear) the switch will be activated. This will allow boost pressure to go straight to the wastegate instead of going through the mbc, and in turn allow only the amount of boost that the wastegate spring will allow.

Its been good so far. I only have about 1000km on it. I initially had a fidanza 3.2, but it absolutely exploded, and in doing so it also cracks my new tranny. The clutch had less then 2000km on it when this all happened, so needless to say, I was not happy. I phoned fidanza and explain what happened, and as it turned out they were very good about it, and sent me the 4.3 clutch for free, along with a set of their axles for free. The only downfall that I find to this clutch is it is grabs very well, either likes to be engaged or disengaged, and sometime on slow downshift it will chatter. All in all I am very happy with the outcome and the new clutch

I believe it is the evo 5th gear upgrade and I think its about 10% taller. Before the new 5th I would be at 2500rpm at 100km/h now with the new 5th its at 120km/h at 2500rpm.

nice nice!!  The shorter 4th and 5th in the fwd is usually  what makes them faster on the hiway, but this way you can cruise at much higher speeds and still get good mileage.  You have more than enough extra power to offset the gears I would guess.

Yeah, I really like it, and I would recommend it to anyone that wants better mileage unless you use 5th for racing ;) because its a bit of a jump.

I asked for another 5th gear when mine was rebuilt, but they told me none was availiable without having straight cut gears.  Boo for me I guess  :)
