Feeler: SPL Team
« on: August 18, 2008, 02:52:22 pm »
Just throwing something out there for you all.

I know that DSMs are cars that we like to make fast and power hungry...why not take it a step further?
As some of you may know...I'm building my dsm up for SPL (Sound Pressure Level) to compete in DB Drag 2009 and for any other sound offs left from the end of August into the winter.
I know a lot of you guys have some nice audio equipment...what if we were to compete together in shows? Not only do you get the bragging rights and trophies...you can also win cool shit like subs, amps, decks, batteries, etc.
I don't expect anyone to be ready right away...mine won't be ready till the end of August. The first sound off I enter will be taking place at Racing Greed on August 31st...it's a non-sanctioned event meaning that it doesn't really count towards points or anything.

Here is the why for me:

My cousin Raymond (aka Ray-Ray) passed away last August of a brain Aneurysm at the age of 31; he used to compete in DB Drags since 2001. He came in second in the world for DB Drag 2006 hitting a staggering 164 db with just one 18" Focal Sub and 8 Rockford Fosgate 1500BD amps along with 8 Optima batteries in a red 91 Civic HB. He lost to someone in Sweden...I'm not sure what the other dude had. Anyway, he and I were best friends since early childhood...and we always wanted to do this together. I wasn't really able to do it with him back then, so I would just enter my car into the show and shines while he would be competing for SPL. So now it's been a year for his passing, and they have been giving out a few trophies with his name on them...the sound off at RG on the 31st is a memorial show for him so that's why I'm doing this right now. Since I'll have all the gear ready to go by then...I figure what's the harm in going full force next year? So there you have it.

I'm sure you guys know Sheela, she's on the forums here as well. She recently met some of my cousin's team mates/competitors and was given a tour on what it's like, how it works, the do's and don'ts. Sheela and I have been talking about this for a while now, and she's been nice enough to offer help to anyone who needs it that is out towards Kamloops/Kelowna...correct me if I'm wrong Sheela. I'm not proclaiming myself the audio god or anything here, I'm getting a lot of help from his old partners as well. Anything we can't figure out on our own, we'll direct you to people who have been doing this for years.

I will be running:

Pioneer DEH-P7000BT - head unit
Pyle 5.2 farad Capacitor
1/0 Gauge wire throughout
Orion WCC 6x9's
Orion HCCA D5000 (5000 watt monoblock)
Orion HCCA 15.2 (4000 watt 2 ohm 15" sub)

Remember that you wouldn't have to do anything this year. Sheela figured I should say something now, so that everyone has time over the winter to get up to speed.
Think about it and let me know...

Thanks!

Yes, that's right Ryan. Anyone needing help in the Kamloops area can call on me. There will be two competitions next August. One here in Kamloops and one in Kelowna at the end of August.

This will give most people a central location to do any last minute repairs or tweaks to their system.

The two she speaks of are the biggest shows in if I'm not mistaken.

I hear you man. I was more about the go...but I average 80-90 km a day in mine. If my car wasn't a daily driver, I'd do it up for speed too.

That's cool, but there's too much I still need to do to mine to get it to where I want it to be when I'm done.

The amount of time and money I'd spend on parts, labor, tuning...makes more sense for me to do everything else first. I'm trying to buy a house first. Then I'll be able to park my car and completely rebuild the whole engine from the ground up. That way, I can take my time with it, and not worry about shit going wrong on the way to work...looking for flat beds, crap like that. I've already done the turbo, exhaust, intake...all that's left for now is the FMIC...then once I park it...I'll start from scratch on the engine and create a monster of it.  ;D

I bought a condo about 4 years ago now.
It's still hard because mortgages are expensive, so the lack of available funds to do bigger power adders.

My wife and I do pretty well, so I'm not too worried about it.

SPL team i'd definitely be interested in. i've always been a fan of way-too-loud bass but never got into anything competition-wise. but i'd love to be a part of something like this. i have enough knowledge to wire everything up and build sub boxes (thanks to Ivan) but i just never knew anyone else who's really big into it.
give me a shout sometime if you wanna meet up and talk more about it, plus i'll show you my new sub box that Ivan and i built. mmmm 4 cubic feet of goodness with no more back seats haha
I dont care what anyone says about my car. It only had 1 error code.
