How to Tell Front from Rear Springs (awd)
« on: August 14, 2006, 07:51:17 pm »
I'm taking off my 1.75" drop springs and putting in some stock ones I got from BCDSM.  My question is the seller didn't label them so how do I tell the difference between the rear and front springs?  The springs are from an AWD and going into my AWD.

The fronts are the springs with the larger diameter. The rears will be the taller springs.

Yeah, its pretty obvious once you actually dig into taking the springs outs, the rears are taller and skinnier and the fronts are shorts and fatter.

They are just as wide and the taller one looks like it has tighter coils :?

those are both front springs or springs not for our cars.

rear springs are about half that wide and not variable rate usually.  just a "tube" in shape.  usually around a foot long maybe a tad more for stockers.

use a caliper and measure the wire thickness. Front coils will typically use a thicker wire to support the extra weight.

upon closer inspection by using the bigger picture, the one on the left definately appears to be wound with thinner wire.

The one on the left is for the rear, the one on the right is for the front.

So the taller, one is for the front(due to the engine weight) and the stubby ones are for the rear?

Sounds understandable to me

Aftermarket 2g springs have the taller thinner springs for the rear, and thicker shorter springs for the front. However stock is gay and makes the front springs super long, hence why the drop in the front is always more than the drop in the rear.
