clutch problems
« on: May 16, 2003, 02:13:58 pm »
hey everyone, I have a new clutch, cuz my old one blew up and took my transmission with it! now I'm having troubles shifting.
anything below 5k rpm is fine, but if i want to shift into second at 6700 or so, it grinds, or i do it sooo slowly that i'm better to shift at 5k! it's driving me nuts!
i'm thinking of picking up a new slave for the clutch, cuz my mechanic says it could be that, i'm also trying to find the redline MTL gear oil.
any other help?

Thanks, Eric

Where did you get the work done at?  Try the slave and master, but it more sounds like blown synchros, thats the same problem I have, exactly the same problem, and it is my synchros.

I swear by what I'm about to post, because its something that I personally experienced.

A few months after I bought my Talon, I would almost get rear ended driving away from a stop light because it took me so long to shift into second.  Too high of revs before shifting and it would grind like crazy.  I took the advice of many and put in a mixture of Redline MTL and MT-90.  The grinding went away almost completely.  I suggest you spend $30 and change your fluid before buying any new parts that you may not need.

Jeff,

What mix did you use?  1L to 1L?  It only holds two if I remember right...
I'm thinking about switching to this on my freshly rebuilt unit just to keep it nice and happy.

Yeah, 1 quart (.9 litres) of MTL and 1 quart of MT-90.   I read some where that it will take 2.5 bottles to completely top it off.
