2G starter vs. 1G starter ?

Differences?  (ie: can a 2G starter be used on a 1G (specifically, 2G AWD starter in a 1G NT))

Purchasing from various places online lists a 91-99 common starter for the turbo engines, and it's one of the "usable items" when doing a 6 bolt swap in a 7 bolt, so I'll go with yes.
