Help: Intake leak result/turbo noise
« Reply #15 on: February 28, 2005, 02:01:24 pm »
Yea i'm not really concerned with the dissapearance of the turbo noise...because its still making boost, and i inspected it for shaft play, none, and turbine spun freely....so id assume the turbo is fine.

I just dont know why i cant boost above 12psi anymore, i used to run 17-18

wade suggested that I pull the vac line from the mbc off the actuator and plug the vac line to see if i could boost past 12 psi, thus telling me if the mbc was screwed, and sure enough shot up past 15 very quickly as i shifted quickly aswell.

So my mbc is shot, thing is i have no idea why, i took it apart and everything seems fine, springs good, balls good, nothings plugged up.

Check the spring in your MBC. It could be the culprit. I had one break once.

It sounds like you found the problem, but just a sidenote: I bought some gray intake gasket material from lordco which felt like it was made of thick paper, and it would leak air like a sieve under boost. I just assumed it wasn't meant for boosted applications, and bought proper gaskets. Fixed the problem.

Yea the permatex copper silicone seemed to do the trick, along with a non-warped jpipe flange :).....still cant figure out the problem with the mbc, i opened it up and everything looks normal, i dont understand why its not working.
