For those 1GAs with H4 headlight upgrade, got a question...
« on: February 02, 2005, 08:07:41 pm »
The stock 3 prong connector has one of the prongs tilted at an angle likes this: \ _ | , while the Hella kit I got had the harness connector like this: |_|
Did you guys just bend the prong to fit with no problems? I'm thinking of just soldering the wires together.

Also did anyone use a relay and notice a difference? I'm also not sure as to how to put in a relay actually... TIA

Yes, just bend it.

I had to do this in the Bosch kit as well.

As for the other question, I am not sure why you would want a relay unless you wanted to wire directly from the battery.

I ran 80/100W bulbs on the stock wiring, no problem.

another option you have, other than bending them, is you can buy conversion harnesses from your local parts store.  I got a couple when I installed mine. They run for @$ 0.99 each. Bending them works just as fine tho.

ah oh well... I ended up rewiring the harness because I couldn't get the connectors to plug in all the way when I bent the prong, guess I'm stuck running H4s now whether I like it or not

So you guys ran 80/100W bulbs without melting the harness? I read on the Hella website that relays would improve performance by reducing voltage drops.

Yes, I ran and still run 80/100W in my Talons (all 3) and not my truck.

Yes, Hella is right, you will increase performance if you use relays.  It is not the relays that improve the performance, it is the ability to use a larger guage wire which has less voltage loss.

Doing the Rewire or relay mod requires you to run new wire.  For the work I am not sure if it is worth it.  I never noticed the wires heating up all that much anyways.  If you want some hints or help with the mods, drop me a PM and I can give you some tips.
