injector problem
« on: November 01, 2004, 11:26:20 am »
i have finished the rebuild on my engine and i want to start it and it wouldn't start. I checked for spark, got that and then i checked for fuel, don't got that. It builds up presure at the fuel fileter but it wasn't coming out of the injectors.

use a data logger to see if everything is go and test each injector, or you dont have fuel pressure, are you running a regulator??

I didn't see this post before I replied to the other one about the vacuum issue.

heres the thing. you have to have compression, spark and fuel and they all have to happen at the correct time.

So, you need to do a compression test.  Then make sure the valve timing is dead on.  Then make sure your spark timing is on as well.  Remember you have to ground 2 things in order to set base spark timing.

To find out for sure if you have fuel, pull the return line off the regulator(yes you have one, its just the stock one) and put it into a jar.  Crank the engine, and see if fuel comes out.  It should.  Might take a few seconds of cranking.  If you get fuel here, the pump signal, the pump, the relay and its associated wiring and all the lines are good.  No need to look at them.

If you have all of those working correctly, you need to find out why your injectors are not firing.  You could hook up a test light across each injector connector and crank the engine.  The light should pulse.

If you don't have any signal at the injector connectors, it must be an electrical thing between the injectors and the ECU.  Swap the ECU with a working one, someone near you could help you out there.  Check the connections at the resistor pack. Aluminum box with wires coming out of it on the firewall.  You may have forgotten to plug it back in when the engine was out of the car.

I hope it's just that easy, plug your resistor pack back in.
