i am putting in a new clutch ( oem) in my JDM 6-bolt motor/tranny, and i am wondering about one thing.  i've heard of having to put a washer in somewhere as a spacer to make the clutch work right??  i know danny boullaine (sp lol) put his together only to find not enough travel and have to pull it out and put a washer in.  i just don't wanna have to pull my stuff apart again, so any help would be awesome

yep.. just shim the pivot ball.. it worked for me, but my engagement point is still near the floor even with the clutch pedal adjusted, i think my flywheel has been machined too much, next time it'll need a new one.

Put one 1mm-2mm washer underneath the pivot ball.  Pull the clutch fork off, then take off the pivot ball with a 14 mm wrench or deep socket and just slide on the washer then re-assemble.  A lock washer would be best.

If you're feelin wealthy, pick up a new clutch fork and pivot ball while your at it, so you have some piece of mind.

Those forks are not too expensive and while you are in there...

soo just get a lock washer...k.  but won't that make for a longer distance then just a flat washer??

Not really, because when you compress the washer it turns into a flat washer, thats the point of it.  I'm not sure if this is what you meant or not.  If you think the washer is too thick than get a smaller one, 3mm or so is good.

ya that's what i ment, but i didn't know if it would get compressed enough.  oh and does anyone know how much a stock flywheel can be lightened?   a buddy of mine does the machining and stuff at Lordco, and can do it for me.

have a look at RRE's page on flywheels etc.  They have lightened ones and you can get a pretty good description of what they do and what to look for etc.

But why you going to all that trouble and using the stock replacement clutch?

At least get a Centerforce.  Your motor is going to make too much power for the stocker, trust me.  and its only a couple hundred more.  No fun taking it apart again for no reason.

this is goin into the JDM 6-bolt, so its no extra work to put in a clutch at this point, its just to get the car on the road, i'm saving up for an act 2600 (among other things :laugh: )

and also i heard somethign about a plastic TOB being better then a metal one??   and that a steel clutch fork is a great upgrade??

you heard correctly about the fork and throwout bearing.  The factory Mitsu bearing is supposed to be the best one.  And the shift forks can be upgraded to several different ones.

I still think that if you put in the stock clutch now, you will kick yourself later when you have to take it all apart again.

I haveto agree, you'll end up spending more too.... buying a stocker and then an act later... get an act2100 for now, or a cfdf, you put in that oem clutch and do a few upgrades you'll burn it out quick too

yeah.. the stocker clutch isn't the greatest... but at the price he got this one for, it'll last long enough for him to save up for an ACT...

also, should i go get the mitsu TOB, or use the one that came with the kit??  what are the differences in the two as far as how the clutch works, shifts feel??
