I got a 90 tsi awd. It's basically stock. The turbo whines very loudly...it basically screams. The car has good low end power, but in the high end i'm pretty sure it should pull better. The boost guage does not fall or anything, it stays up there, but the car seems to not pull that much in the high end.

The turbo sounds like "weeeeeeeeWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

LOL...i'm thinking my bearings are shot.

Most DSMs won't pull hard above 6~6500, just the way the cams and turbos flow.

Most turbos squeal because they ingest bits and when the fins bend they make funny noises

Any abnormal noise coming from Turbo usually indicates a major failure.

It sounds like the centre cartridge is worn-out and compressor is rubbing on the housing.

Remove the Intake rubber hose, grab the Turbo by the compressor bolt and try to move it around, I am sure it will move sideways a lot. Also look inside and see if the compressor blades are broken, bent or disintegrated.

It's a good time to get an upgraded Turbo. :D

Thanks guys. I'm gonna bring it down to L&R and let them take a look at it as I am not too experienced with turbos yet.

Could be just a boost leak...

Went to L&R today, vacuum seems fine. They assume it's the blades, and so do I.

Beats me!

It happened after switching exhaust manifolds, which has absoloutly nothing to do with the compressor.
