door crushing quarter panels...
« on: February 07, 2004, 11:15:32 pm »
I know it's happened to a few people before, but what was the problem?  My driver side door is sitting too far forward and it bent the quarter panel in.  I've heard people say it may be the hinges, but I'd like some confirmation on that.  Anyone know?

yeah, i had that on my 94

apparently what it is (caused by hard jolts/bumps) is the ground effects on the door actually catch at the bottom, which eventually bend the fender in JUST enough so the door catches it.

Simple solution: bend the fender back out gently using a soft rubber "tool"

Complex Solution: take fender off and actually bend it straight, then weld a metal bar behind the fender so that it doesn't bend back in due to jolts/bumps. I got that idea from Frank at Top End Automotive.. he said he's done it before...

if you want my "Rubber Tool" that i used for my 94... you can have it.. i dont need it for my 91

basically it's just a strip of rubber that i'd open the door.. put between fender and door.. then gently close the door and it would bend fender back out without scratching the shit out of the paint..
