used car question~
« on: February 06, 2004, 11:12:25 am »
hey..i was just wondering...

i was looking at a 1996 talon and its got around 200k's on it...is that a lot?  i know average is 24k ..so for 8 years that works out to just above average..but should i keep looking? or still check the car out and take it to my mechanic?  the dude said his gf worked in vancouver and they lived in chilliwack so it was almost all highway km's...thanks~~

ps-someone was telling me that GENERALLY around 200k++ ...the turbo engine starts to need some costly maintenance work...

thanks for yer help~

The average varies depending on location, city folk from Vancouver average more like 10~15K per year.
I think that is quite high.
Keep in mind, mileage for a sports car like ours is not too good of an indicator since our cars tend to suffer abuse by drivers alot more.

This car with 200k may be in vastly superior condition to one you find with only 100k.

If you like the car get it completely checked over - it may be nice

hey Lawrence,

yeah, keep looking.  You can get a lower mileage car for a good price.

eg.  I believe Troy S is still selling his 95 tsi.  Are you Troy?

My 1990 is just about to roll 200K. You can get lower. I would keep looking if for nothing else but resale value.

My car is a 99 (built in 98 ) and was driven in the US (highways galore). It is really high on mileage. It's at 140,000 KM.   :(
