Alrighty...
I'm gettin frustrated in arguing with my Electronics Tech ...
Here's the schematic I've been given by someone who's successfully built and used a logger cable based on
this design. Please notice the note for J2 (db9 computer interface)
Now here's a basic RS232 port
pinout config. (note: Direction is DTE)
Now here's the pin config for the
MAX232 chip (page 17 fig.5) (sorry, it's a PDF) Thus ensuring txd/rxd connections are matched up to the MAX232 chip.
My theory is, the page describing the RS232 is from the perspective of the computer (for lack of a better term). Pin2 is set to receive and Pin3 is set to transmit. Based on this observation, the cable would be correct in it's design by transmitting data to pin 2 (so the computer could receive as it's configured) then by receiving data on pin3 (as the computer could transmit as it's configured).
Can anyone back this up or prove me wrong? I think it's all a matter of perspective and interpretation on what the datalogger schematic is stating.
Thanks.
