Vented BOV. Leaking?
« on: November 20, 2003, 10:06:02 am »
Tried to vent my BOV and everything seems fine initially.
The idle was smooth, holds boost to 15psi WOT.

BUT, if I go part throttle at 5-13psi, the car would jerk and I can hear air noise about half the loudness of the blow off sound?  Is it a bad BOV?
It was a 1G BOV crushed by Mr. Gladman.  Not the cheapo 2G one.

Also, at vacuum 23-24, I can hear a very high pitch "wheeeeeeee" coming from the engine bay and it's very annoying.  Could it be related to the BOV?

It started to do that when I got my BOV and UIP done.

Any ideas?  Thanks.

Yup it's leaking.  The jerkiness that you feel at part throttle is caused by the extra fuel that the ECU has put into the engine, but since you're venting you're BOV the air has excaped, hense the extra fuel and driveablitiy issues.  Also when you're foot is off the gas while in gear will cause the bov to open due to the high vacuum which will cause air to be sucked in through the open BOV I think.  This might be what's causing your high pitched whistle.

Bottom line is if you want to vent get rid of the mas.  But I'm probably wrong.  You might want to search that 1000 FAQ page.

Later, Vlad.

Have you tried recircing to see if it goes away?

The jerkiness goes away but the whistling noise has always been there since day one, vented or not.

So a normal 1G crushed BOV won't leak at part thorttle like I describe?  I think I need a new BOV then.

Doesn't a crushed BOV hold more boost and won't leak at idle with no down side?
