Oil seals on a turbo... $500+?
« on: November 20, 2003, 12:43:25 am »
Took the turbo to a shop to get a quote for fixing/replacing the oil
seals.  He quoted me $500 /minimum/ to replace the seals.  Does
that seem  right?  Am I failing to see the justification of $500?!

If I wanted to be screwed over, I'm sure I could find someone else
willing to do it for less than $500.

Maybe it just seems a little high to me.  Maybe it's the fact that
its the only turbo/fuel injection shop here, and they can get away
with highway robbery.  Opinions? :\

that seems like a bit much. Almost a better idea to upgrade to a 16G if its the stock turbo thats in trouble.

Heh, yeah a bit of a drive... but I made day trips to Mission just to watch
the races, so driving a few hours to get my turbo to work... :D

I thought $500 seemed a bit excessive to me, as well.  But my
hesitation with going in and getting it fixed or trading up is that I just
bought this stock turbo to replace the fubar'd one (the seller didn't
know the seals were messed up).  Decisions, decisions.

I wonder if "Money Pit" will fit on custom vanity plates.

i brought in a tdo5h 14b and left with a tdo5h 16G evo wheel 34mm flapper with a 7 cm exhaust housing and a 10 deg. clip with a complete major kit installed
but i'm thinking that may be too much for sarah's poor front wheel drive.... we'll see

yea, that and a good rebuild/balance/port job on a working 14b?

that is probably what I will do when mine goes.

No bigger wheels, no clipping, just optimize the hell outta a 14b.
