Brake caliper question
« on: January 10, 2015, 10:23:46 pm »
I have always done this without too much thought involved but it occurred to me I didn't really know why they were designed this way.  Each caliper has a guide pin and a lock pin.  One of which has a wide rubber O-ring on the end.  Why were they engineered this way?  I was just thinking the o-ring was to keep the caliper from sliding back and forth too quickly...

the "oring" or sleeve is there to act like a damper.  It helps kepe the metal separated and reduce vibrations and noise under braking (mainly squeal and harshness)

Yes, I can see how it would dampen some vibrations.  I have taken apart a few calipers where the pins had been installed in the wrong location but haven't noticed any problems with the "incorrect" installation.

yeah, I have lots of pics of it.  Its my green evo 1 GSR, doesn't get a lot of km's on it currently.  not my DD, and definalty does not come out to play in the winter haha.  Not super easy to find more original evo 1's if I crash/let this one get the salt at it.
