AWD wheel/tyres question
« on: November 18, 2014, 03:48:49 pm »
I know that it's not recommended to have different tyres on an AWD, like 2 winters in front and all seasons on the back or mixing new tyres with used tyres...BUT my question is, is it the same for wheels?

like if i have 2 sets of 17in wheels on the front and another 2 different set of 17in wheels on the back (all 4 with the same tyres), is that okay or also just not recommendable?

As long as dimensions and offsets are exactly the same as well as tire size and wear, it should be fine.

Rims are OK as long as their the same.
How ever, tires, you dont want that problem on your hand.

Different brands / tread patterns / stickyness etc. can wear a diff

and also same size tires.... but different brands/models can be different diameters and width, eventho the size numbers are the same.

Replacing a center diff is usually not cheap!

It's really important that your tires are a matched set. One tire companies 225/50-16 can have different dimensions than another line or brand.
For wheels, you *can* mismatch them, but they obviously have to be similarly sized and with similar offsets.
Objects in mirrors appear to be losing.

yup. understand about the tires.. was wondering about wheels but I guess so long as dimensions and offsets are same, all good with similar size.. tires, gotta be same.
