Can I start without an fmic?
« on: July 11, 2014, 04:17:04 pm »
Probably a newb question but I'm needing to start my car and move it around in the driveway/garage however, there is no fmic on it at the moment.

Would I possibly damage anything if I do this? Remember that the engine was just built and has not been broken in yet, the only road time the engine has seen really is the drive home from RG.

I don't mind waiting, it's not that big of a deal if the answer is no, don't start. I have time so all good but am just curious.

Thanks

Generally, it will be fine.  If you mean the intake from turbo to throttle body isn't even connected, it may not start or only with a bit of throttle.  With a completely factory style ECU and fuel setup (450cc injectors) there is a limp mode that will turn the CEL on, but it will run.  (Pseudo speed density for ya!)

If you are running speed/density it will also likely work.

Personally I would seal the intake plumbing with some silicone couplers, or find an air filter the correct size to cover the inlet to the throttle body.  (*Don't* suck anything besides air into your motor.)

My buddy blew a intercooler pipe the other week and the car ran fine it just wouldn't boost ,it ran like an NA , so I think you wouldn't have a problem , it might run very rich ,

Make sure you hook an IC pipe from the turbo to the intake.

If you do not have pressure for the turbo, you can over boost it.

But yes, you can run with out an inter cooler. but dont boost.
