Tire size question.
« on: February 25, 2014, 07:21:35 pm »
So I bought some used tires. Sight unseen.
215/55/17 two different makes.
They are about 1in different in circumference and the taller one is also 1/2in wider.
Now the guy that sold them says it will be fine but I am worried.
Should I be?
I haven't mounted them yet but I don't think that will make any diff on size.

Is your car lowered? Fenders rolled?

What is your concern? Fitment, or Speedometer accuracy?

Wider?  Not a problem. Taller?  Problem. I wouldn't run them.

Problem, for sure.

Rolling circumference needs to be a lot closer than 1" apart!

If you've already taken them, I guess you can either see if any FWD guys here want them or pop them back out on CL.
Objects in mirrors appear to be losing.

I've heard wider also matters because the amount of surface area in contact with the road changes the overall dimensions when you take into consideration that it's displacing air and the tire will stretch. Very minutely however, wider does make a diff.

I plan on running 255 rear and 225 in front, as long as the diameter/rpm(rotation per mile) are the same or at least within 3-5 rpm of each other thing should be fine.
