Energy suspension front control arm bushing install
« on: February 13, 2012, 05:29:45 pm »
I ordered parts from prothanesuspension.com and it came with all of the parts that were listed in the package, the only problem was the small inserts had the wrong part number on them and would not fit into the hole where the old bushing were pressed out from.  They sent me replacement except they are the exact same parts that I had initially received.

Has anyone done this swap recently? Do I need to remove the metal sleeve or something to make these bushings fit?

you need to press out or cut out the old outter ring that is part of the old bushing.

That's what it looks like, but the only reason I am hesitant to do that is because it says to leave it in in the instructions provided by Prothane.

I may just be overly cautious here but do you have any input on that?

i think your reading it wrong... thats all..

On all the Prothane installs i have done you remove the outter ring.

I think they are talking about the internal sleeves that you slide through the bushing(s) once you push the poly inserts in.

The bushings seem to seat quite well without the metal sleeve.   However there at least 3 mm clearance on either side of bushings, does this seem OK?
It sure felt good and tight.

there should be virtually no clearance on a bushing. Otherwise it is just going to be sloppy and wear out faster. you may need them pressed in?

I haven't used the Prothane bushings on a 1G, but Energy Suspension bushings require you to leave the sleeve in place.

Finally seem to have gotten somewhere with the retailer.

"Ok the manufacturer is sending the correct bushing this time. Our rep checked to make sure they have the correct number stamped on them. Again, I apologize for all of the issues with this."

I kinda want to know how they managed to get it wrong twice.

Anyone have a spare passenger side front control arm?
