Name that sensor! (Pictures inside)
« on: December 03, 2011, 03:59:13 pm »
So I have 2 what I believe to be "sensors" if anyone could identify what they are and what they do, that would be great.

(The flat head looking thing with the gold piece coming off it, looks like a sensor would slide onto it)

At the back of the engine, at the firewall, about halfway down, coming out from a harness

first pic is the idle stop switch.   when you close the throttle    it will bump the throttle plate open a tad to prevent stalling/low rpm.

second pic, the  plug is the same as a stock foglight plug

That idle stop switch doesn't have to be plugged into anything, correct?

I found the 2 stock foglight plugs tied up down by the intercooler, which makes sense since they've been removed.
But how would that plug reach all the way to them?

yes it does. there should be a single wire with a rubber boot that goes to it.

Hmm, any idea where that would originate from?

Upon further looking along the firewall I found another plug just further down that looks very similar to that black plug, I assume they connect together for functioning fog lights?

The first pic is the idle stop switch.  1g's use it.  2g's do not.

2g's have the stop switch wired into the TPS and it must be set with feeler gauge and a DVOM like I have talked about earlier.

The 2nd pic is some randome plug I don't know what its for... But every 2g and 1g I have seen usually have it just diconneted.  I think its supposed to be like that

The second plug looks like the Tach Noise Filter on the 90's I think. Not to sure about a 2g of course but it looks identical to that guy there.
