Methanol Q/A
« on: September 26, 2011, 09:02:28 pm »
Meth setup is complete.    Or is it..  I'm thinking of adding an air pressure source to the methanol reservoir to assist fuel flow through the pump. I know that some guys use boost pressure..   Just wondering if this is "ideal"  with a non recirc-pump.  or could you trigger an independent air pump to apply some pressure to the reservoir? Anyone experiment with something similar? My rez is in my trunk, meaning for me, the boost source would be a quite a long airline.

Also read that Maximum octane characteristics of Methanol are yielded using 80% meth with 20% water.

Thoughts?

i think there's only 3 options personally.

straight meth, 50/50 smurf pee, straight water.

any other mix gets too complicated with the mixing characteristics of methanol potentially throwing off your tune.

Ive read that the cooling characteristics of water are essential, however only 20% is needed. The Methanol is still the key component in fueling but is most efficient in a 80/20mix.   Im going to go by this.

I believe you are correct if you are just using it to assist.  If you are using it for max effect and run lots of flow and are more relying on it, straight methanol seems to have produced good results.

I like to have some water in the mix for the cleaning properties(it steam cleans hot parts) and for the fact that when I was running straight alcohol it evaporated out of my tank and I didn't know about it.  And even if I do know about it, it costs money to refill it for no reason.

Lol smerf pee.

100% meth. Or toss a 2nd pump for a 750cc of water. That might be cool. The mixxing can get tricky if you don't always put a full jug of meth and a 500ml bottle of water in.

Then google.
Then read old postings about it.
Then ask.

pre mix it carefully, then keep that in a jug on its own.  Then you know what you are putting in your car.
