Gas struts/hood lifts for 1G ???
« on: August 07, 2011, 09:58:24 am »
I've seen these on mostly new luxury cars, the gas struts under the hood instead of a stand. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get these for a 1G please let me know or does anyone know if the 2G hood lifts from eBay can be manufactured to fit the 1G

The image below is for the newer eclipse. But I have found diffrent hood lifts for diffrent cars

i would imagine any car could be retrofitted to have these work. i would think that all you would have to do is fab up some mounts. try searching google perhaps.

did a quick search, found this on tuners. i imagine with the pictures here you could get a good idea of how you could mount them.

ahah we both have a good side. lets sue each other!

no, none for you iPhone boy...

:D

yea, you will have to be a pioneer here.  Its all about how long the strut is, where you mount it(both the hood spot and the fender spot) and how much the strut protrudes when fully out.

Our hoods are heavy too, don't forget.

Yeah that was my biggest concern that our hoods are heavier

On another forum bread someone with a 2G intalled rear civic hatch struts. Now I just dunno what the install took to complete that setup

but I would suggest getting your aircare situation fixed and whatever else may be lurking before you put money into frivolus things.

just me tho, you do what you'd like, its your car.

You can make em with almost any strut out there that still works. I have in the past on a couple costumer cars. If you can order em for cheep that's awesome :) but worce comes to worce pick one up and make one. But cf hoods it will put a lump or ark in the hood when closed over time or on a super hot day. But that's not very commen :)

Then google.
Then read old postings about it.
Then ask.

Meron did it on his black 1g 6 or 7 years ago. He had to make a couple custom brackets. Nothing to crazy to do if you have some spare time on your hands and a few parts lying around.

I had a similar problem with my 2g hatch struts. Every time I put the hatch up it would be 2% more likely to close on my head as I was getting something out of the back. My solution was to replaced the hatch with a Carbon Fiber model and the struts have been working great ever since.  I figure I have added years to there life span.  Save yourself a bunch of money having to buy new struts, get some old used ones and buy a CF hood with the money you save!
