rim Vs tire and fitment.

I have some 17x9s, the best price I found for good summer/race rubber is for some 225/45/17s they are recomended for up to 8.5 is that half inch to much strech?

You can stretch it. Tires perform best when square (as opposed to stretched or tucked in), but a half inch shouldn't be too noticeable.

I would also point out that it'll possibly wear a bit odd, but that's likely not remotely of concern.



Though I'd say that's a little too far.

Objects in mirrors appear to be losing.

That tire must have been RETARDEDLY hard to stretch onto that rim. It's a 195\45!!!

225/45 should be on an 8" wide wheel.  8.5 will be ok, but a tad on the VW goof side of stretched looking.  9" on a 225/45 will be stretched.

You need a 235 or 245/40 tire I think on a 9" wheel.

Keep in mind each wheel and tire(especially the tires) will be a tad different, but close.
