new intake
« on: June 01, 2008, 07:19:48 pm »

Its cool im happy after paint it will look good. I routed my piping out to the smic aria like I showed a couple weeks ago. and to that I just piped it up to the bumper and made me self a velocity stack with a heat gun and black sheet plastic and put some mesh over it.

I originally only went to wash my car.... never did get around to it.  :-\

hrmm... that gives me some ideas.  I think i will do the same thing with my colt (routing it to the SMIC area), as my fmic piping doesn't go through there anymore.  I think my underhood temps are really hot and all that air is just going into my aircan, esspecially in the talon as the air filter is open to the engine bay.

Sorry i know this is off topic, but just a quick question on the sorta same topic (cold air intake)

When datalogging I notice that the air temp  is pretty hot sometimes.(is this the temperature of the air coming into the MAF sensor???)  Sometimes its reads around 60 deg celicus!!  Just wondering if this is a acurate way  to tell what the temperture of the air is going into the engine.

yes, this is the reason that I did mine the way I did and Zacholah copied.

Datalogged it before up to $150-160 kinda thing in the summer, never less than 40 even on cold days under way.

Now its a few degrees above ambient at worst.  I'm talking ove 100 degrees colder in most situations

WAY WAY better.  Car is for sure faster, more responsive and pulls much harder.  Tires spin in second on dry pavement now, just by hitting it hard.

well the talon or colt might need to get this mod next.

I think i would be worried about hydrolocking the engine and the filter sucking up water through a big puddle.

get the by pass or what ever its called it goes on b4 the intake so that if you do suck up water it will suck in air at that point instead

I know I haven't had it on too long and I don't daily drive it, but its pretty high up.  It would take a HUGE puddle to pull some solid water in there.
