boost gauge stuck??
« on: September 04, 2006, 09:19:59 pm »
Earlier today, gauge working fine, correctly even.

a few min later, start the car, gauge sitting rock steady at 30" vac.  Shut off car, still 30"

disconnect manifold tube from gauge, start car, still 30" and a good signal from tube.

Smack gauge gently, still 30".  Gauge out of car, in hand, smacked a bit harder and repeatedly, not damaging, but just trying to shake it loose?  Still at 30"

reconnect and go for a rip, hoping that boost and or vac may free it up, but no good.  Still just sitting at 30", inside the house.

any ideas besides "buy Darryl's gauge"  ?

Which boost gauge are we talking about here?  Autometer? Stock?  Is it mechanical or electronic?

Autometer are one of the cheapest poorest quality gauges made.
I've had several stop working on me, but I still run them because they are CHEAP.

I had a bad incident with one.  I thought I was running 20 psi at the track once and blew a headgasket.  Once I bought a Greddy boost gauge and tested the two side by side, I found out the autometer one was off by 4 psi so I was actually running 24 psi.  Expensive lesson, I'll never run one of those again.

Speaking of expensive lessons, Meron, I hope that engine in your sig isn't what I think it is...

Yea I got a new one already. Figured I'd try and see if I could get that one working, but no.

To bad I got another Autometer one, I figured they were good?  All the cool kids are using them.
