Full Garret or Bolt on?
« on: July 16, 2006, 08:22:09 pm »
Well after many many many sleepless nights up thinking about if I should go with an "scm-type" bolt on turbo housing or a full T3/T4 turbo setup.

I will have all supporting mods and tuning DsmLink + Wideband.
9:1 compression and most likely a set of 272's.

I would like to see 350-400 horse daily driven on good 'ol pump gas.  With excellent driving and tune I would like to go into the deep 12's.
I have been thinking a Pte 50 or 54 Trim.  I do not mind waiting for full spool around 4k rpms at all.  I almost think a 50 trim wouldnt quite get me there though.

Anyways please shoot me your thoughts, stay Mitsu flanged, go full T3/T4, or even what turbo you think.  Thanks for the time.

I don't think there's any need to go garrett, every type of turbo you can think of is available with a mitsu flange. Bullseye, Kinetic, FP  the list goes on...

Only reason I say that is apparently (i.e I have heard lots of people say but have no hard evidence) that a garret housing (flanges) will flow a significant amount more than a mitsu housing.

Like I said I am still searching for hard proof of that one.

I've read and heard similar things, however, they are usually referring to power levels higher than your goal.

No reason not to go without a bolt on in my opinion. Why mess with a good thing.

You can always port the shit out of the flanges, if you're so inclined. The combo of a evo3 manifold, GT series turbo and evo3 o2 housing will flow far more than your goal.
